 Ingredients:

Alfalfa

Alfalfa leaf, also referred to as “The Father of Foods” is the young sprouted leafy portion of Leguminoseae Fabaceae (legume/pea family).

Super-Food:

This protein-rich superfood contains eight essential amino acids along with vitamins A, B, C,D, E and B12, calcium, magnesium, phosphorous, potassium, chlorophyll and numerous trace elements. Interestingly, alfalfa is one of the few vegetable sources of vitamin D providing as much as 4740 IUs per pound. Alfalfa has roots that reach far as 130 feet into the earth. Due to its incredible root depth it is one of the most mineral rich foods known to man as it is able to seek out minerals and nutrients inaccessible to other shorter rooted plants. As it is a whole food its vitamins and minerals are in a balanced nutrient matrix allowing for superior absorption.

Anti-oxidant:

French scientists have shown alfalfa can reduce tissue damage from radiotherapy. It helps to maintain healthy cells and reduce tissue damage from free radicals by neutralizing acidity in the body. Due to a specific fiber that is able to bind and neutralize various types of agents carcinogenic to the colon, alfalfa has been shown to cause activity in the complex cellular system that inactivates dietary chemical carcinogens in the liver and small intestine before they have a chance to do harm.

 Blood Pressure:

Also high in some lesser known but very important vitamins, alfalfa contains large amounts of vitamin K and U, essential for blood clotting, improvement of vascular fragility, and lowering high blood pressure. Women are encouraged to eat alfalfa to shorten their postpartum bleeding as vitamin K and U strengthen the veins and arteries.

Cholesterol:

Alfalfas root saponins have been proven to inhibit increases in blood cholesterol by as much as 25% and are antifungal.

Hemorrhoids:

Due to the large amounts of vitamin K strengthening the blood vessels, and impressive mineral content and active enzymes, alfalfa can help heal and then prevent hemorrhoids.

Ulcers:

Alfalfa contains large amounts of vitamin U, a healing agent for ulcers.

Barley Grass

Barley grass is the leaf portion of the barley plant (Hordeum vulgare) that remains after the seeds have been removed.

Super-Food:

Barley is the only vegetation on earth that can supply sole nutritional support from birth to old age. Rich in chlorophyll, which has anti-mutagenic and anti-carcinogenic properties, and enzymes, which the body needs to perform a variety of important chemical reactions, it provides potent antioxidant effects and energy at the cellular level. The juice from barley grass contains eleven times more calcium than cow's milk, five times more iron than spinach and seven times more vitamin C than oranges.

Anti-Aging:

As a powerful antioxidant rich in essential nutrients, barley helps delay and reverse the effects of aging. A biologist named Yasuo Hotta from the University of California, La Jolla, found in barley grass a substance called P4D1. This substance not only has strong anti-inflammatory action but also was shown to repair the DNA in the cells of the body.  This aided in the prevention of abnormal growths, aging, and cell death.  He reported in a Japan Pharmacy Science Association meeting that P4D1 suppresses or cures pancreatitis, stomachitis, inflammation of the oral cavity, and dermatitis, and also lacerations of the stomach and duodenum. He found that barley juice is much stronger than steroid drugs but has fewer if any side effects.

Anti-oxidant:

Barley contains an optimum balance of nutrients and phytochemicals working together as antioxidants to provide protection against free radicals. These include four special types of phytochemicals, carotenoids, flavonoids, GIV and chlorophyll. Barley grass is also extremely rich in tocotrienols and one super antioxidant called tricin.

Cellular Repair:

Recent research has found barley grass to contain 18 of the 20 amino acids, including the 8 essentials, the amino acids that we must get from our diets as the body cannot produce them. Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins. They are the major component of every cell and fluid in the body and are vital for energy production and cell regeneration. Additionally the newly discovered antioxidant GIV, present in barley grass has been observed helping the DNA of injured cells repair themselves with rapid speed.

Joint Pain and Inflammation Relief:

Barley is known to contain thousands of active enzymes, including superoxide dismutase (SOD), which helps to detoxify the body and maintain healthy joints.

Healing:

Chlorophyll is known to help cleanse the body, fight infection, heal wounds, and promote the health of the circulatory, digestive, immune, and detoxification systems.

Bee Pollen

Bee Pollen is the male seed of flowers and is required for the fertilization of a plant. The tiny particles formed at the free end of the stamen in the heart of the blossom of every flower on earth is the food of young bees.

Super-Food:

Bee pollen contains more protein than beef and is the richest source of vitamins found in a single natural food source. Approximately 40% free form amino acids, bee pollen contains all known nutrients, micro and macro including high concentrations of B vitamin complex, vitamin A, C, D, and E, and cannot be synthesized in a laboratory. When researchers feed young bees manmade pollen, the bees die even though all the known nutrients are present in the synthesized laboratory produced pollen. Though thousands of chemical analyses of bee pollen have been made with the very latest diagnostic equipment, these studies prove that there are elements present in bee pollen that cannot be identified or duplicated. These unidentifiable elements may be the reason bee pollen works so spectacularly against so many diverse conditions of ill health. The percentage of rejuvenating elements in bee pollen have been shown to correct the deficient or unbalanced nutrition, common in the customs of our present-day civilization of consuming incomplete foods, often with added chemical ingredients, which expose us to many severe physiological problems.

Allergies:

Bee pollen has been effectively used down through the ages to rid allergy sufferers of their afflictions. This technique, called desensitization, was developed at St. Mary's Hospital Medical School in London in the early 1900’s. The treatment consists of administering small amounts of a specific allergen to stimulate the patient's own immune system to produce antibodies that will eliminate the allergic reaction. Doctor Leo Conway, M.D., of Denver Colorado, treated his patients with bee pollen. Dr. Conway reported: "All patients who had taken the antigen [pollen] for three years remained free from all allergy symptoms, no matter where they lived and regardless of diet. Control has been achieved in 100% of my cases. No ill consequences have resulted. 94% of all his patients were completely free from allergy symptoms. Of the remaining 6%, not one followed my directions, but even this small percentage was nonetheless partially relieved".

Anemia:

Studies have shown that the ingestion of bee pollen has a positive effect on the composition of blood. A considerable and simultaneous increase of both white and red blood cells is observed in direct proportion to ingestion. When bee pollen is given to anemic patients, their levels of hemoglobin [oxygen-carrying red blood cells] increase considerably.

Anti-bacterial:

Researchers have demonstrated that there is a substance in bee pollen that inhibits the development of numerous harmful bacteria. Experiments have shown bee pollen contains an antibiotic factor effective against salmonella and some strains of bacteria.

 Breast Cancer:

One of the most important articles ever published on bee pollen comes from the United States Department of Agriculture. This article, entitled "Delay in the Appearance of Palpable Mammary Tumors in C3H Mice Following the Ingestion of Pollinized Food," is the work of William Robinson of the Bureau of Entomology, Agriculture Research Administration. Dr. Robinson started with mice that had been specially bred to develop and subsequently die from tumors. He explains, "The age at which mice of this strain developed tumors ranged from 18 to 57 weeks, with an average appearance at 33 weeks. Tumor incidence is 100 %." One group of mice was fed mice chow only; another group was fed mice chow with the addition of bee pollen at a ratio of 1 part bee pollen to 10,000 parts food. In his summary Dr. Robinson states, "In the untreated mice [the mice not given bee pollen], mammary tumors appeared as expected at an average of 31.3 weeks. Tumor incidence is 100%. In the postponement series, [the mice given bee pollen], the average [onset of tumors] was 41.1 weeks, a delay of 9.8 weeks being obtained. Seven mice in this series are still tumor-free at 56 to 62 weeks of age, when the tests were terminated. I would like to emphasize that these mice were especially bred to die from cancerous tumors. Without the protection of bee pollen in their food, the mice developed tumors and died right on schedule.  This study was published in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute in October 1948.

Cholesterol:

It is reported that bee pollen in the diet acts to normalize cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood. Upon the regular ingestion of bee pollen, a reduction of cholesterol and triglycerides was observed. High-density lipoproteins (HDL) increased, while low-density lipoproteins (LDL) decreased. A normalization of blood serum cholesterol levels was also seen.

Energy and Endurance:

The British Sports Council recorded increases in strength of 40% to 50% in those taking bee pollen regularly. Even more astounding, the British Royal Society has reported height increases in adults who take pollen. Antii Lananaki, coach of the Finnish track team that swept the Olympics in 1972, revealed, "Most of our athletes take a bee pollen food supplements. Our studies show it (bee pollen) significantly improves our athlete’s performance. There have been no negative results since we have been supplying bee pollen to our athletes."  Alex Woodly, then executive director of the prestigious Education Athletic Club in Philadelphia, said, "Bee pollen works perfectly. Pollen allows super-stars to increase their strength and stamina up to 25%. This increase in strength and endurance may be the key to the secret regenerative power of bee pollen. Bee pollen causes a definite decrease in pulse rate. The whole beauty of bee pollen is that it is as natural as you can get. No chemicals. No steroids." Renowned German naturalist Francis Huber was a great proponent of this miraculous super-food. Huber called bee pollen "the greatest body builder on Earth."

Fertility:

Bee pollen has been shown to stimulate ovarian function. Frequency of ovulation increased with supplementation as slight as 2 parts per 100 of animal protein to bee pollen resulting in an increase in the percentage of eggs released in the control group taking the bee pollen.

Gastritis:

On the clinical level, studies have shown bee pollen to have a regulatory effect on intestinal function. The high proportion of cellulose and fiber in pollen, as well as the existence of antibiotic factors, all contribute to an explanation for this efficacious effect.

Immune System Support:

A report from the Agronomic Institute, Faculty of Zootechnics, Romania, showed the immune-strengthening effects of bee pollen. According to the report, "Comparative Studies Concerning Biochemical Characteristics of Beebread as Related to the Pollen Preserved in Honey" by doctors. E. Palos, Z. Voiculescu, and C. Andrei, "An increase has been recorded in the level of blood lymphocytes, gamma globulins, and proteins in those subjects given bee pollen in comparison with control groups. The most significant difference occurred in lymphocytes.” Lymphocytes are the white blood cells that are the "soldiers" of the immune system. They are responsible for ridding the body of injurious and harmful substances, including infected or diseased cells, mutant and cancerous cells, viruses, metabolic trash, and so on. Gamma globulin is a protein formed in the blood, and our ability to resist infection is closely related to this protein's activity.  “These results thus signify a strengthening in the resistance of the organic immune system," the doctors concluded.

Menopause:

Bee pollen is rich in essential amino acids, unsaturated fatty acids and also contains many vitamins, minerals and trace elements. The main active ingredients are primarily phytoestrogens including isoflavones and lignans, otherwise known as plant hormones, compounds with well-documented hormonal benefits for both men and women. A placebo-controlled randomized trial to evaluate the efficacy of bee pollen in women suffering from severe menopausal symptoms showed a significant decrease of menopausal symptoms including headache, urinary incontinence, vaginal dryness and decreasing vitality.

Osteoporosis:

The effect of bee pollen on bone density and osteoporosis during the climacteric period of menopause in peri-menopausal women was also studied by Dr. Werner Salomon, a gynecologist in Hamburg, Germany, in an observational study in his practice over a three-year period from 1989-1993. After the period of observation, Dr. Salomon found that administration of bee pollen to peri-menopausal women not only blocked the beginnings of osteoporosis but also produced a significant increase in bone density.

Weight Control:

Studies show that supplementing with bee pollen promotes weight-control and weight-stabilization by stabilizing the metabolic processes. It speeds caloric burn, contributing 15% lecithin by volume. Lecithin is a substance that helps dissolve and flush fat from the body and its phenylalanine component neutralizes your appestat, the control center that signals fullness and hunger, thus eliminating cravings. The active chemical in many common weight loss products is a laboratory created chemical counterfeit of phenylalanine called phenylpropanolamine, which chemically depresses the appetite. Bee pollen achieves the same effect with none of the dangers associated with medical weight loss drugs.

Carrot Powder

Ingredient:

The carrot (Daucus carota) is a root vegetable that belongs to the Apiaceae family.

 Super-Food:

Carrots are an excellent source of antioxidant compounds, and the richest vegetable source of pro-vitamin A carotenes. Carrots are by far one of the richest source of carotenoids-just one cup provides 16,679 IUs of beta-carotene and 3,432 REs (retinol equivalents), or roughly 686.3% the RDA for vitamin A. High carotenoid intake has been linked with a 20% decrease in postmenopausal breast cancer and an up to 50% decrease in the incidence of cancers of the bladder, cervix, prostate, colon, larynx, and esophagus. Carrots are an excellent source of vitamin A. In addition, they are a very good source of vitamin C, vitamin K, dietary fiber and potassium.

Anti-oxidant:

Carrots' antioxidant compounds help protect against cardiovascular disease and cancer and also promote good vision, especially night vision.

Blood Sugar:

Intake of foods such as carrots that are rich in carotenoids may be beneficial to blood sugar regulation. Research has suggested that physiological levels, as well as dietary intake, of carotenoids may be inversely associated with insulin resistance and high blood sugar levels.

Colon Cancer:

Although best known for their high content of beta carotene, carrots also contain a phytonutrient called falcarinol that may be responsible for the recognized epidemiological association between frequently eating carrots and a reduced risk of cancers. Falcarinol provides protection against colon cancer, suggests a study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry. Three groups of laboratory animals in whom precancerous colon lesions (aberrant crypt foci) had been chemically-induced were fed a standard diet, one supplemented with freeze-dried carrots naturally containing falcarinol, or one supplemented with an extract of falcarinol. After 18 weeks, precancerous lesions in the animals given diets containing carrots or falcarinol were much smaller than those in the control animals, and far fewer of the lesions had grown in size or progressed to become tumors.

Heart Disease:

Carrots' antioxidant compounds help protect against cardiovascular disease and cancer and also promote good vision, especially night vision. When six epidemiological studies that looked at the association of diets high in carotenoids and heart disease were reviewed, the research demonstrated that high-carotenoid diets are associated with a reduced risk of heart disease. In one study that examined the diets of 1,300 elderly persons in Massachusetts, those who had at least one serving of carrots and/or squash each day had a 60% reduction in their risk of heart attacks compared to those who ate less than one serving of these carotenoid-rich foods per day.

Lung Cancer:

If you or someone you love is a smoker, or if you are frequently exposed to secondhand smoke, then making vitamin A-rich foods, such as carrots, part of your healthy way of eating may save your life, suggests research conducted at Kansas State University. While studying the relationship between vitamin A, lung inflammation, and emphysema, Richard Baybutt, associate professor of nutrition at Kansas State, made a surprising discovery: a common carcinogen in cigarette smoke, benzo(a)pyrene, induces vitamin A deficiency. Additional human studies suggest that a diet including as little as one carrot per day could conceivably cut the rate of lung cancer in half. Remember the study in which heavy long-term cigarette smokers were given synthetic beta-carotene, and it did not appear to prevent them from developing lung cancer? Well, not only is synthetic beta-carotene not biochemically identical to the real stuff found in carrots, but scientists now think that carrots' protective effects are the result of a team effort among several substances abundant in carrots, including alpha-carotene, a different and less well known carotenoid. A recent National Cancer Institute study found lung cancer occurrence was higher in men whose diets did not supply a healthy intake of alpha-carotene.

Vision:

Carrots' antioxidant compounds help protect against cardiovascular disease and cancer and also promote good vision, especially night vision. Beta-carotene helps to protect vision, especially night vision. After beta-carotene is converted to vitamin A in the liver, it travels to the retina where it is transformed into rhodopsin, a purple pigment that is necessary for night-vision. Plus beta-carotene's powerful antioxidant actions help provide protection against macular degeneration and the development of senile cataracts, the leading cause of blindness in the elderly.

Chlorella

Ingredient:

Chlorella is a single-celled fresh water-grown green algae belonging to the genus phylum Chlorophyta. Emerging over 2 billion years ago it was the first plant with a well-defined nucleus. Chlorella derived its name from the Greek, "chloros" meaning green and "ella" meaning small. In fact chlorella contains the highest amount of chlorophyll of any known plant.

Super Food:

Chlorella helps build the immune system and detoxify heavy metals and other poisons in the body. It improves the digestive and elimination system, normalizes blood sugar and blood pressure levels, increases and clarifies focus and attention, improves energy level, balances body pH, and cleanses the breath. Chlorella contains the complete vitamin B complex with more B-12 than liver. It also has abundant amounts of vitamin C, vitamin E, a broad spectrum of enzymes including pepsin for digestion, beta-carotene, iron, zinc, macro minerals such as calcium, magnesium, zinc, potassium, rare trace minerals, essential fatty acids including gamma linolenic acid (GLA), and polysaccharides. Chlorella is 18% chlorella growth factor, up to 10% RNA, and up to 3% DNA. Its chlorophyll content is higher than the other algae and grasses. The tough outer cell wall of chlorella, which we open in our unique processing technique allowing access vital nutrients, provides a fiber that eliminates toxins, pesticides and heavy metals by chemically binding them in digestive tract. It aids the body in the breakdown of hydrocarbons and metallic toxins such as DDT, PCB, mercury, cadmium and lead, while strengthening the immune system. This fibrous broken outer cell wall also provides material that greatly enhances digestion and health of the digestive tract. The chlorophyll in chlorella has a magnesium ion at its center, giving it remarkable red blood cell building ability. This makes it an excellent transporter of oxygen and bloodstream cleanser. Chlorella stimulates the activity of T-cells and macrophages by increasing interferon levels. This enhances the immune system's ability to combat foreign invaders such as bacteria, viruses, chemicals and foreign proteins. It is a power cancer fighter.

Blood Builder:

Hemoglobin is the protein in our red blood cells which binds with oxygen and gives blood its bright red color. Chlorophyll cells are nearly identical to hemoglobin, with one exception: Chlorophyll has a magnesium molecule at its center while hemoglobin has an iron molecule at the center of it. This is important because magnesium is essential for the heart to function properly. Every time our heart beats, it is utilizing magnesium to do so. For this reason, chlorophyll is effective against anemia and stimulates the production of red blood cells in the body. It also helps carry oxygen around the body and to the brain. This is why chlorella is often called a 'Brain Food'. Several researchers have suggested the use of chlorophyll as a medical therapy for anemia.

Detoxification:

Gastro-intestinal detoxification and heavy metal removal using chlorella is supported by numerous research projects in the U.S. and Europe. These studies indicate that chlorella can aid the body in breaking down persistent hydrocarbon and metallic toxins such as mercury, cadmium and lead, DDT and PCB while simultaneously strengthening immune system  responses. In Japan, interest in chlorella has focused largely on detoxifying properties, predominately its ability to remove or neutralize poisonous substances from the body.

Fibromyalgia and Hypertension:

Prevents damage to the body from toxic chemicals.  A double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial was recently organized to test chlorella's ability to improve quality of life and normalize body functions in people with chronic illnesses, specifically fibromyalgia, hypertension, and ulcerative colitis. This study was also designed to test the hypothesis that the consumption of natural "whole foods" rich in macronutrients has many healthful benefits for those who otherwise ingest a normal, non-vegetarian diet. Fifty-five subjects with fibromyalgia, 33 with hypertension, and 9 with ulcerative colitis consumed chlorella every day for 2 or 3 months. Daily dietary supplementation with chlorella was seen to reduce high blood pressure, lower serum cholesterol levels, accelerate wound healing and enhance immune functions. Researchers concluded that the potential of chlorella to relieve symptoms, improve quality of life, and normalize body functions in patients with fibromyalgia, hypertension, or ulcerative colitis warrant comprehensive clinical trials.

Protection:

Interferon, one of the many components of chlorophyll, is one of our body's greatest natural defenses against viruses and cancer. One of the many ways the body fights is to use different naturally occurring chemical agents to stimulate macrophage production and activity. Interferon is a natural secretion of the body which stimulates macrophages. This stimulation activates macrophages and T-cells thus increasing interferon levels enhancing the immune system's ability to combat foreign invaders, strengthening you against viruses, bacteria, chemicals or foreign proteins.

pH:

Chlorella is Alkaline and Helps Balance Your Body's pH.  It is critical that your body Ph is 7.2-7.4, which is neutral. Your digestive system should be acid and other systems of the body should be alkaline. However, because of the western diet of overcooked processed foods and soft drinks which have a pH of 2.7, most of us are not balanced. Proper Ph is important since most diseases start, live and thrive in an acid environment. Proof of this is in cancer rates which have risen steadily with our increasing acid Ph. At this time research suggests that 1/3 of all people in the U. S. will get cancer in their lifetime unless something is done to change their baseline Ph.

Hesperidin

Ingredient:

Hesperidin is a flavanone glycoside consisting of the flavone hesperitin bound to the disaccharide rutinose. Also a phytochemical, hesperidin is mainly found in the pith of citrus fruits such as lemons and oranges and in green vegetables.

Super-food:

Hesperidin has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, hypolipidemic, vasoprotective, anticarcinogenic and cholesterol lowering actions. With its high vitamin C and P factors, hesperitin is uniquely qualified to help maintain healthy capillaries, help form collagen in connective tissue, help heal wounds, and support a healthy immune system. Vitamin P works synergistically with vitamin C and when low or un-available frequently result in predictable medical problems that include a greater risk for vascular degeneration, bruising, capillary fragility, nose bleeds, varicose veins, periodontal bleeding, hemorrhoids and aneurism. Few individuals exhibit optimal levels of these super nutrients even after mega-supplementation. Why? One reason is the chemical interaction of bioflavonoids (such as hesperidin) with other nutrients, which can have a negative synergistic or inhibiting effect on them. Various drugs are also able to restrict or inhibit bioflavonoids and affect their efficacy. The most common inhibitor is copper. This is the reason why high levels of copper create a greater risk for vascular degeneration, which in turn requires greater intake of sulfur, Vitamin C, chromium, or molybdenum to bind and flush Copper from the system. This makes the hesperidin more bioavailable. Without this change of tissue level copper, hesperidin levels will not go up, no matter how much is supplemented.

Allergies:

Hesperidin is used to reduce hay fever and other allergic conditions by inhibiting the release of histamine from mast cells. The possible anti-cancer activity of hesperidin could be explained by the inhibition of polyamine synthesis.

Anti-oxidants and Diabeties:

Amongst the numerous co-adjuvant therapies which could influence the incidence and progression of diabetic complications, antioxidants and flavonoids are currently being tested in several clinical trials. This study investigated the effects of Daflon 500, which is made up of the flavonoids diosmin (90%) and hesperidin (10%), in a group of 28 Type 1 diabetic patients in a double blind placebo-controlled study. Parameters of glycation and oxidative stress were measured before and after the intervention. Treatment with this flavonoid showed a decrease in HbA1c, from 8.85+/-1.57 to 8.47+/-1.40% (p=0.017). This decrease was more pronounced in the patients with higher initial HbA1c but was unrelated to glycaemic control as monitored by the mean and fluctuations of daily glycaemia. Decrease in HbA1c was accompanied by an increase in glutathione peroxidase activity, from 119+/-68 to 145+/-42 U/l haemolysate (p=0.015), a tendency for increase in plasma protein thiols and an increase in the lag time of the copper-induced in vitro oxidability of non-HDL lipoproteins, from 96+/-24 to 111+/-28 min (p=0.005). These parameters did not change significantly after receiving placebo. Other parameters of antioxidant capacity such as blood GSH, catalase and superoxide dismutase activities, as well as in vitro formation of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), were unaffected by either flavonoid or placebo. These results suggest that the flavonoid-induced decrease in glycation is associated with an increase in the antioxidant component dependent on the levels and activities of thiol-containing proteins such as glutathione peroxidase. One mechanism which could explain these effects is the protection of vitamin C and E from consumption by oxidative processes.

This common mineral is found naturally in white powder form in metamorphic rocks. Whole grains, nuts, seeds, legumes, bran, pumpkin and squash are good food sources of this important mineral.

Super-food:

Magnesium is an essential nutritional element in trace amounts and is the central atom of chlorophyll, the green photosynthetic compound that gives plants their color. Every cell of the human body needs magnesium for energy metabolism and protein synthesis. Magnesium catalysis more than 300 enzymatic reactions, in particular those involving the fundamental energy molecule of the body, ATP. It helps maintain normal muscle and nerve function, keeps heart rhythm steady and bones strong. Most people understand how important calcium is for the strength of bones and teeth and the health of skin, but few realize that magnesium is also essential. About half of the total magnesium in the body is found intra-cellularly in soft tissues, and the other half is combined with calcium and phosphorus in bone. Blood levels of magnesium represent only 1% of the body's total magnesium store. The human body works very hard to keep blood levels of magnesium constant. Despite the importance of magnesium to myriad bodily functions, hypomagnesaemia (magnesium deficiency) is surprisingly common in the general public and often remains undetected and overlooked. Magnesium deficiency may result in a condition known as hypocalcaemia (low calcium). In heart tissue, magnesium depletion can lead to an influx of sodium and calcium cat ions into the mitochondria (where energy for a cell is produced) and this may lead to myocardial cell death. Researchers conclude that magnesium deficiency may be a factor in a large number of common diseases.

Oat Grass

Ingredient:

Perennial plants of the genera of grasses, Arrhenatherum and Danthonia (family Poaceae) and native to Europe and Asia.

Super-food:

Oat Grass is an excellent source of beta carotene, vitamin K, folic acid, calcium, iron, protein, fiber as well as vitamin C and B vitamins. Oat grass has a relaxing and stimulating action that nourishes and strengthens the nervous system. It may be valuable for arthritis, rheumatism, stress, depression, debility, exhaustion, nerve tremors, epilepsy, convalescence, palpitations, nervous headache, nervous stomach, nervous breakdown, cholesterol balance, herpes, and menopausal symptoms. It is also used for thyroid and estrogen deficiencies, degenerative diseases such as MS, and for colds, especially recurrent or persistent.

Like the other cereal grasses, oat grass contains beta-carotene, vitamins K and C, folic acid, calcium, iron, protein, fiber and B vitamins.

Blood Sugar Regulation:

Oat grass can increase acid excretion by the body’s natural channels by working as an anti-oxidant and purifying agent. Ingesting oat grass with meals helps regulate a gentle rise in blood sugar. With a normal sugar curve instead of a spike, many issues pertaining to blood sugar regulation, hypoglycemia and diabetes can be helped.

Cancer:

Research now shows that it contains the anti-tumor compound b-sitosterol. This shows some suggestion that the chances of cancer in the bowel may be reduced by eating oat grass regularly, as well as cancers in general.

Cholesterol:

It has been purported to help with the lowering of cholesterol naturally. Ingesting oat grass regularly can help control cholesterol. Studies show a decrease in low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and the total amount of triglyceride restoring normal blood sugar.

Hair Loss:

The benefits of oat grass on hair growth are due to its restorative properties. Oat grass promotes hair regrowth by blocking dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT causes a tightening effect within the skin around your hair follicles that literally chokes the hair follicle. Oat grass prevents testosterone from turning into DHT, thus stopping hair loss. Other vital nutrients help to nourish and even re-grow hair that has already fallen out.

Sexual Function:

Oat grass is rich in linoleic acid. Linoleic acid is necessary in the maintenance of normal metabolic activities and a critical component of prostate health.

Nerve Function:

The oat seeds carry antispasmodic, cardio, diuretic, emollient, nerve and stimulant properties. Oat grass has been prescribed in the treatment of a wide range of nervous conditions. It has been shown to help with the exhaustion related to neurological pains specifically multiple sclerosis. This super grass has been used as a nerve stimulant when treating opium addiction and is a popular remedy for anxiety and ADHD.

Quercetin

Ingredient:

Quercitin, a bioflavonoid ( a type of nutrient that is found in some fruits and green, leafy vegetables, amongst other things such as teas and beans) can be a great asset to your health when taken as a supplement to a healthy diet. Bioflavonoids are the nutrients necessary to maintaining the health of your skin. This is because they help to create collagen, the substance that keeps our skin firm and healthy. Therefore, a lack of collagen can lead to wrinkles and sagginess.

Quercitin has also been shown to help the body improve the health of its capillaries and connective tissues. Due to this, quercitin has been linked to helping to alleve bruising, unsightly varicose veins, fragile capillaries, and edema. Also, good news for allergies! Quercitin has been known to block the release of histamine, which may help aid conditions brought on by allergies.

After testing at the Mayo clinic, quercitin was also shown to be useful in helping to treat or prevent prostate cancer. In the findings of the Mayo Clinic study about quercitin, Mayo Clinic researcher Nianzeng Xing, Ph.D stated that "Our laboratory results showed quercitin blocks the androgen activity in androgen-responsive human prostate cancer cell lines." He then followed this statement by asserting that "By blocking the androgen activity, the growth of prostate cancer cells can be prevented or stopped." While this research doesn’t prove quercitin will actually truly benefit men with prostate cancer or those at risk, it definitely shows promise as a preliminary study.

While there is not a recommended daily allowance, or RDA, of quercitin, studies have indicated that toxicity with quercitin is largely a non issue. However, a dosage of somewhere between 50 mgs and 150 mgs per day is a reasonable dose, and using mega-doses is not recommended. If you are pregnant or nursing, it would be a good idea to speak with your physician before beginning taking this supplement.

Rose Hips

Ingredient:

The fruit of dog rose, Rosa canina L. Family Rosaceae,.

 Super-food :

This fruit is rich in Vitamin C and carotenoids and is used for the prevention and treatment of vitamin C and A deficiency and scurvy. The Rosaceae family contains many of the most important edible fruits grown in temperate areas including apple, pear, peach, plum, cherry, apricot, almond, nectarine, prune, hawthorn, loquat, quince, raspberry, blackberry and strawberry. The fleshy hips of roses are no less edible and nutritious than these more popular fruits. Rosehip tea was traditionally used for preventing and treating colds, chills and influenza-type infections, as well as for treating other infectious diseases. Rosehips were taken as a tonic and the juice or tea was taken to increase the body's resistance against disease, for treating gastric-juice deficiency, for bowel disorders and to aid digestion. The German Commission E also lists rosehips for treating biliary complaints and colic, urinary tract disorders, edema (water retention) and for strengthening the kidneys. The hip tea is also listed as a diuretic and as a treatment for bone and joint disorders and as an astringent and eyewash. The pectin in the hips makes them effective as a mild laxative, similar to apples for helping regularity. The seeds themselves are also listed by the German Commission E as a treatment for kidney and urinary tract disorders, for edema, as a diuretic and for bone and joint complaints; although it acknowledges that the efficacy of these indications has not been proven. Modern studies show that rosehips inhibit lipid oxidation in vitro and in clinical studies patients suffering from osteoarthritis reported that physical symptoms declined. Data from a randomised controlled trial indicate not only significantly less pain but also flexion of the hip improved in the active treatment group.

Active Ingredients:

Rosehips contain: Up to 1.7% L-Ascorbic acid as the essential constituent; pectins; tannins; sugar, plant acids; red and yellow pigments, especially carotenoids, mainly different isomers of rubixanthin, lycopene, beta-carotene, beta-chryptoxanthin, zeaxanthin and lutein. Rosehips also contain many other flavonoid-type antioxidants such as anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins. Rosehip seeds contain: Up to 10% fixed oil; up to 0.3% essential oil; traces of vitamin C; and inorganic substances.

Rutin

Ingredients :

Rutin, a bioflavonoid, is a water-soluble antioxidant that is widely distributed in the plant kingdom. It is often found together with vitamin C in fruits and potentates vitamin C activity within the body.

Super-food:

In 1942, researchers at the U.S. Department of Agriculture postulated the important physiological effect of the bioflavonoid rutin on capillary blood vessels. Bioflavonoids, in general, are essential for the processing of vitamin C within the body, the maintenance of capillary walls and the fortification of collagen, the intercellular "cement" of the body. A deficiency of rutin in the diet has been linked with abnormal capillary leakiness as well as pain in the extremities causing aches, weakness and night leg cramps. Supplemental rutin has been shown to reduce edema or excess swelling in the legs due to fluid retention. Like other bioflavonoids, rutin works best when taken in its natural state along with naturally occurring vitamin C and other bioflavonoids. Rutin and other flavonoids are widely used for the treatment of chronic venous insufficiency (CVI). In clinical trials, rutin has demonstrated its activity by improving venous tone and vein elasticity. Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical studies have shown an improvement in signs and symptoms related to chronic venous insufficiency including heavy legs, edema, parasthesia and cramps. Additionally, a randomized double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical study has shown that treatment with rutin for 2 weeks improved body temperature and was effective in controlling chronic venous hypertension, without side effect, and with good tolerability. Clinical research also shows that rutin can prevent the progression of micro-angiopathy to clinical stages and can prevent neuropathy. This is of particular importance for diabetic patients. Studies show that rutin is also effective treating hemorrhoids and reducing plasma free radicals both locally and systemically

Hemorrhoids:

The safety and efficacy of Trihydroxyethylrutosides (HR) in the treatment of 53 patients with 1st-2nd degree hemorrhoids of pregnancy (16th-34th week) was investigated in a double-blind randomised, placebo controlled trial. The dosage of Trihydroxyethylrutosides was 1 tablet of 300 milligrams twice daily for the first 2 weeks. If the treatment was successful, the treatment was stopped. If the clinical signs or symptoms still persisted, the treatment was continued for another two weeks using the same dosage and re-evaluated at the end of the fourth week after initial treatment. The parameters for efficacy were symptoms (pain, bleeding, exudation and pruritus) and the objective signs on proctoscopy (bleeding, inflammation and dilatation of the hemorrhoidal venous plexus). The study revealed improvement of symptoms in the study group which was better than in the control group after 2 weeks of treatment but the clinical signs were not different. After a further 2 weeks of treatment, the result showed improvement of both clinical signs and symptoms in this study. Only one mild transient side effect was reported in the HR group and there were no drug-related problems in the pregnancies, delivery or the babies.

Spirulina

Spirulina, Spirulina pratensis  [Phylum: Cyanophyta], is the nutrient-dense seaweed cyanobacteria.

Super-food:

Spirulina grows best in waters saturated with high concentrations of mineral deposits. The mineral content is in fact so high that no other plant can live in this severely alkaline environment. This nutrient incorporates and synthesizes many of these minerals and derivative compounds into its structure. It is an excellent source of potassium, calcium, zinc, magnesium, manganese, selenium, iron and phosphorus. Packed full of phytochemicals, spirulina has significant amounts of protein, essential amino acids, essential fatty acids, chlorophyll, carotenoids including beta-carotene, vitamins, minerals, unique pigments and polysaccharides. Spirulina also has probiotic compounds that enhance health through preserving resident intestinal microflora, especially lactic acid bacilli and bifidobacteria, and decreasing the level of Candida albicans. Researchers also found that Spirulina produces an immune stimulating effect by enhancing the resistance of humans, mammals, chickens and fish to infections by stimulating the production of antibodies, cytokines, macrophages, T and B cells. Treatment of 60 patients with chronic diffuse liver disorders and seventy experimental animals with liver disease from toxins suggest clinical-and-laboratory effectiveness of Spirulina for preventing liver damage. Liver-protective properties of Spirulina are attributed to its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, membrane-stabilizing, and immune correcting actions. Spirulina sulfolipids have also proved to be active against HIV and whole Spirulina biomass against herpes virus, cytomegalovirus, and influenza virus. Spirulina extracts have also been shown to reduce cholesterol, inhibit development of abnormal growths and prevent allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis.

Spirulina has a history of use as actual food in Chad where locals traditionally consume 9-13 grams per meal, and these meals make up from 10 to 60% of daily food ingestion. Research on the traditional usage of Spirulina as a food was done by Delpeuch and others and published in 1976 in the article entitled, Consumption as food and nutritional composition of blue-green algae among populations in the Kanem region of Chad (Ann. Nutr. Aliment. 29: 497-516). After this report, the United Nation's FAO organized an educational campaign in Chad to encourage consumption of Spirulina harvested from natural sources and more than 6000 meals were distributed under the supervision of the FAO. As a top source of chlorophyll, beta-carotene and protein and to detoxify the kidneys and liver and inhibit the growth of fungi, bacteria and yeasts, Dr. Susan M. Lark, M.D., who specializes in preventive medicine and clinical nutrition in Los Altos, CA and teaches at Stanford University Medical School, recommends Spirulina daily.

AIDS:

The National Cancer Institute found sulfolipids in blue-green algae were 'remarkably active' against the AIDS virus in vitro. Spirulina contains 5-8% lipids, and 40% of these are glycolipids and sulfolipids. These compounds seem to prevent viruses from either attaching to or penetrating cells, preventing viral infection. Meanwhile, the virus can be eliminated by the body's defenses. Exciting new research in Japan and the USA has confirmed spirulina extracts in vitro can inhibit replication of the HIV virus.

Anemia:

It is a storehouse of chlorophyll, very similar in structure to the hemoglobin molecule found in human blood cells except it contains magnesium at its core which gives it a green color. When chlorophyll is ingested with naturally occurring iron, the magnesium can be displaced to yield a hemoglobin molecule, allowing spirulina to have positive effect on anemia.

Blood Pressure:

Spirulina is 7 percent fat, and most of that is in the form of essential fatty acids, including linoleic, linolenic and arachidonic acid. These fats are used to produce prostaglandins, the hormonal regulators of blood pressure and capillary resilience, and to aid oxygen transport to the cells. They are vital to health and also have a positive effect on hair, nails and skin.

Cholesterol:

Nutrition studies in Mexico, Argentina, Japan and India found the same cholesterol lowering benefits and an improvement in heart artery function for lower blood pressure. Published scientific studies with men in Japan and India showed several grams of spirulina daily can lower cholesterol. These studies suggest spirulina will reduce serum LDL (Low Density Lipoproteins) and raise HDL (High Density Lipoproteins). Studies in Germany and India found a weight reduction effect along with cholesterol reduction. All these studies indicate spirulina is a useful supplement for cardiovascular health and for lowering cholesterol.

Detoxification:

Spirulina accelerates detoxification during fasting and cleansing. In Japan, researchers have found spirulina significantly reduced kidney toxicity caused by the heavy metal mercury and three pharmaceutical drugs. This suggested it's beneficial for humans suffering from heavy metal poisoning. Other researchers found rats consuming spirulina or chlorella algae eliminated 7 times the dangerous chemical dioxin compared to a control diet.

In 1994, a Russian Patent was awarded for spirulina as a medical food to reduce allergic reactions from radiation sickness. 270 Children of Chernobyl consuming 5 grams a day for 45 days (donated by Earthrise Farms), lowered radionucleides by 50%, and normalized allergic sensitivities.

Today we are subject to an onslaught of toxic chemicals in our air, water, food and drugs. Our bodies need to continually eliminate these accumulated toxins. Spirulina has a completely unique combination of phytonutrients - including chlorophyll, phycocyanin and polysaccharides, that can help cleanse our bodies.

 Digestion and Elimination:

Spirulina is rich in pigments, without which the synthesis of many of the enzymes necessary for metabolism could not take place. Also high in chlorophyll, it increases peristaltic action relieving constipation, and normalizing secretion of digestive acids. By suppressing bacteria like e-coli and yeast such as Candida it simultaneously cleanses while stimulating beneficial flora like lactobacillus and bifidobacteria. Healthy flora is necessary absorption of nutrients and protection against infection

Immune Support:

Spirulina improves immune system function. Medical scientists discovered it not only stimulates the immune system, it actually enhances the body's ability to generate new blood cells. Important parts of the immune system, bone marrow stem cells, macrophages, T-cells and natural killer cells, spleen and thymus glands - all show enhanced activity. Scientists observe it causes macrophages to increase in number, become activated and more effective killing germs. Because spirulina increases disease resistance in animals, even in very small doses, the animal feed industry is studying its use as an new probiotic to help replace overused antibiotic drugs in animal feeds. Scientists in Japan have published new studies showing a purified extract unique to spirulina inhibits replication of HIV-1, Herpes, Influenza, Mumps and Measles virus in-vitro yet is very safe for human cells.

Liver Aid:

Chlorophyll appears to encourage regeneration of liver cells and dilates blood vessels to increase circulation to all organs. It aids in transmission of nerve impulses that control heart contraction. Phycocyanin, the bluish pigment, is important for healthy liver function and digestion of amino acids.

Wheat Germ

Ingredient:

Wheat germ is the nutrient-rich embryo of the wheat kernel that is removed during the processing of whole wheat grains to white flour and only makes up about two to three percent of the entire wheat kernel . Although not technically a food, wheat germ is considered to be one of the top 10 healthiest foods because it is such a good source of so many essential vitamins and minerals and healthy fats and particularly high in vitamin E – an antioxidant which is good for the skin and has anti-aging properties. Wheat germ is also a good source of fiber which has many One of the benefits includes improved bowel function that may reduce the risk of developing heart disease and diabetes and prevent weight gain.

Heart Health:

Wheat germ has a phytosterol content which has been shown to lower cholesterol and blood pressure thus promoting a healthy heart. It is high amounts of vitamin E, an antioxidant that helps protect the body from damaging free radicals.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids:

In addition, wheat germ is a good source of omega-3 fatty acids. Omega-3 fatty acids helps to lower cholesterol and blood pressure as well as being important for nervous system functioning, and help elevate mood.

Wheat Grass

Ingredient:

This grass is a balanced source of nutrition. It contains high levels of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, protein, enzymes, chlorophyll and mucopolysaccharides. Further, it's known to be highly alkalizing to the body and helps with detoxification.

People have been interested in the health benefits of green cereal grasses, the kind that will one day sprout into grains used to make cereal, since the 1930s. It was around this time when it was discovered that cows that didn't eat enough of these green grasses produced milk that was less nutritious, spurring scientists to look at these grasses' effects in humans.

Today, it's known that green cereal grasses contain beta-carotene, vitamins K and C, folic acid, calcium, iron, protein, fiber, chlorophyll and many of the B vitamins. Although the mechanisms by which it promotes health are not known at this time, they've been said to fight and prevent cancer, lower cholesterol and blood pressure, boost the immune system, speed wound healing, promote good digestion and healthy skin, detoxify pollutants from the body and protect against the damaging effects of radiation.

Ingredients:

Beet

Beets, Beta vulgaris L. [Fam. Chenopodiaceae], are native to temperate parts of Eurasia, but are now in general cultivation worldwide, chiefly for their large roots, which are used as food, nutrients and a source of sugar.

Super Food:

The beet contains phosphorus, sodium, magnesium, calcium, iron potassium as well as fiber, vitamins A and C, niacin and biotin carbohydrates, protein, fat and ash, Beet greens are rich in vitamins A and B. Beet roots and greens are particularly rich in folic acid, a B vitamin. They also supply needed sulfur and iron for the.  The sulfur encourages better protein absorption, which will in turn carry needed minerals to the liver and pancreas.  This creates a valuable dietary loop of nourishment

Detoxifier:

The iron content of beets, though not high but of the finest quality, makes it a powerful cleanser and blood builder. This makes it very effective in treating many ailments caused by a toxic environment and/or surroundings.

Gallbladder:

Beet juice helps stimulate the function of liver cells and protect the liver and bile ducts. Being highly alkaline producing, beets are highly effective in the treatment of acidosis and those diseases associated with acidosis, most notably cancer, gall bladder issues and gout. In fact, beet and carrot when combined is excellent in the healing of gout, kidney and gall bladder problems. Beet juice contains betaine, which stimulates the function of liver cells and protects the liver and bile ducts. Recent studies point to betaine as contributing to the prevention of coronary and cerebral artery diseases as well.

Lung Health:

Dr. Douglas Heimburger of the University of Alabama discovered how critical folic acid is for warding off abnormal lung growths. By measuring folic acid levels in the lungs of men with and without lung abnormal growths, he discovered that patients with abnormal growths were more likely to have a localized deficiency of this B vitamin in their lung tissue. This lack leads to more chromosome breakage in cells, making them more vulnerable to the formation of abnormal growths. Smokers generally have much lower levels of folic acid in their blood than non-smokers, indicating a further predisposition to abnormal lung growths, partly due to a "vegetable deficiency". Interestingly, high alkaline producing foods like beet greens also tend to "re-circulate" nicotine in the body, maintaining high levels of the addictive substance in the blood and therefore  cravings and intake, according to Dr. David Daughton, a nicotine researcher at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

Heart Health:

Thebeet is unique for its high levels of anti-carcinogens and its very high carotenoid content. Beets are loaded with antioxidant that helps the body against heart disease, certain cancer especially colon cancer and even birth defects. Betacyanin is the pigment that gives beets their red color; this pigment is absorbed into the blood corpuscles and can increase the oxygen-carrying ability of the blood by up to 400 per cent. The green leafy tops are rich in beta-carotene, folic acid, chlorophyll, potassium, vitamin C, and iron.

Carrot Powder

Betaine HCL

Betaine HCL is a source of hydrochloric acid, a naturally occurring stomach acid that helps break up fats and proteins for further digestion in the small intestine. Gastric (stomach) acid also aids in the absorption of nutrients through the walls of the intestines into the blood. It is found naturally in fish, beets, broccoli, spinach and legumes.

Superfood:

Betaine HCL is a lipotropic. Lipotropics aid in preventing the accumulation of fat in the liver, and usually help in the detoxification of metabolic wastes and toxins. They may also be used to help with weight loss. Some benefits of lipotropics are detoxification of the waste by-products of protein synthesis, increasing resistance to disease by stimulating the thymus gland, increasing the production of lecithin in the liver which can lower cholesterol levels, preventing plaque deposits in arteries, preventing gallston formation and protecting against neuropathy, a condition where the crainial and spinal nerves as well as the nerves to the bladder and bowel can be affacted. Betaine HCL also protects the liver from a variety of chemical insults, including death of liver cells caused by a backlog of natural bile salts.

Betaine HCL treats many conditions including high homosysteine levels which are known to cause heart disease. It may also be beneficial in treating malabsorption, osteoporosis, asthma, eczma, indigestion and heart burn as well as rheumatoid arthritis, thyroid problems, diarrhea and hininitis (inflammation of the nose).

Allergies:

Betaine HCL may prevent and treat allergies (insufficient production of Hydrochloric Acid in the Stomach (Hypochlorhydria) is believed to be an underlying cause of many allergies and Betaine HCL is a supplemental source of Hydrochloric Acid). Additionally, betaine HCL may suppress or kill helicobacter pylori (Hypochlorhydria (lack of Hydrochloric Acid) patients have increased levels of helicobacter pylori – betaine HCL is a source of supplemental Hydrochloric HCL.

Athletic Performance:

Betaine HCL helps improve athletic performance (by improving the body’s energy levels, increasing stamina and improving the body’s utilization of oxygen). It can increase the body’s liver's efficiency in metabolizing fatty acids. It also reduces elevated homocysteine levels (during its metabolism within the body, betaine HCL transfers one of its methyl groups to homocysteine, causing homocysteine to be converted to methionine and improves the body’s utilization of oxygen.

Digestive Health:

Betaine HCL  has been shown to reduce the risk of gallstones in persons with low levels of hydrochloric acid. It often alleviates many cases of heartburn (by increasing the level of hydrochloric acid in the stomach) and is also useful for the treatment of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth.

Enzymes

Enzymes for digestion are a must.  Our foods today do not contain the natural enzymes they once did in our ancestor’s day.  Foods are allowed too long on the shelf, or are tampered with by destroying enzymes so that they might have a longer shelf life.  We also cook the enzymes out of our food and have become less prone to eating just-picked foods.  In their raw state, foods are packed with the very enzymes that help digest them, or break them down. Therefore, the pancreas has additional work to bear simply due to our life style.  So we must help out the stomach and pancreas by supplementing with enzymes.

Heart Health:

Betaine (especially the trimethylglycine (TMG) form of betaine) may help to prevent cardiovascular diseases (due to betaine functioning as a methyl donor which lowers homocysteine levels).

Enzymes:

Enzymes are necessary to digest and assimilate your food. They also have a detoxifying effect on the body.  Though the pancreas is responsible for the production of enzymes as well as the production of insulin, imagine the stress placed on the pancreas if it is continually called upon to produce enzymes for most of the food we eat daily. The result of a stressed pancreas would be diminished ability to produce insulin when needed and many dietetic sugar handling imbalances can occur.

In nature, ideally the food we eat would contain the necessary enzyme necessary to digest it. For example a food high in protein would also be high in Protease which is the enzyme that digests protein. Unfortunately, most of the food in our diets no longer have any enzymes in them, or the enzymes have been systematically destroyed to preserve shelf life. Heat and the processing of foods destroys natural enzymes.

Everyone should include enzymes in their diet as routinely as they would take multiple vitamins and minerals.  The following enzymes should be included in your supplementation:

~ Protease which digests proteins

~ Amylase which digests carbohydrates

~ Lipase which digests fats

~ Cellulase which digests fiber
